I saw this a while back and I tried searching but I can't seem to find the thread where someone explained and posted a diagram for how to measure wheel fitment. Like, width is this dimension, offset is this dimension, and wheel well distance is this dimension so if you want to put new wheels on x-y+z must equal some constant. Also said stuff about how to calculate spacers. Any thoughts, ideas?

All you need to do is compare a new setup to stock. Of course if you want to run 10-20 mm farther out than stock you might need to start running a smaller tire. (i didn't go into that math below). FTR - I'm running 225/45/17s on my beater with ET15 17x8 - they rub bad when loaded down, and I have rolled/pulled/beaten the fenders a bit.
That's another aspect not to look over is how low you are. The fenders are angled, so the lower the farther in your tire needs to be (why a lot of guys run so much camber to fit low offset wheels).
This might help? (threw it together really quick)
