Am I SOL?

The rails that the clips for the door mouldings pop onto have decayed and the clips simply don't stay on the mouldings.

Feels bad man

the holes? is this a real question? not to be a dick, but you cant think of 5 ways to make them work?

Grind down, rustoleom, adhesive? You mean the black M moudlings around the entire car right? It happens since water can sit there

I think he is referring to the mouldings themselves and not the holes. The tabs on the top and bottom of the clips break off with age and it leaves nothing for the clip to attach to on the moulding. Is this what you are referring to?

If it is, just buy new mouldings. Mine did the same thing and that was my solution. You can't really glue them on because it's difficult to get the right distance. I think I paid about $150 for a set.

even if this was the problem, you can buy new clips and then put it on the rail. you wasted $140

get new moldings, or figure out a way to stick the clips onto the moldings....glue, tape, etc

No, I had no choice. It's the rails that the clips attach to on the mouldings that broke off. New clips would do absolutely no good when there isn't anything to clip them onto anymore.

Read his post again. Nowhere does he say anything about there being rust anywhere. He said decay. Everyone else just assumed he was referring to the holes in the body and not the mouldings themselves. Plastics decay over time and the rails on the mouldings that the clips attach to break off with age which leaves nothing for the clips to attach to. The only easy solution is to buy new mouldings. Otherwise you have to glue the clips on and hope everything is perfectly aligned.

I see, sorry about that. I think you could align the clips up fairly easily by test fitting with a marker to mark clip position...then glue it down. Just don't apply so much glue that it willnever come off

If OP can check in to clarify what he means exactly... :)

The part where the clips mount on the moulding have completely rusted out, I am just going to buy a new moulding.

I have tried glue and everything I was just wondering if anyone was more creative than me about fixing it

The part where the clips mount to the moulding are plastic, therefore they cannot rust.

That's what mine looked like too. I don't think glue would work. At least in my case. It probably would have broken off before too long anyways. Replacing them is your best bet in this case i'd say.

For those wanting to winter drive their car they can look forward to more of this.. I couldn't believe the plastic has metal in it until I confirmed for myself.
