I asked this a few weeks ago but did not get an answer and am hoping that someone will be able to give me an answer.

I live in the NE (NJ)and have snowconditions for about 20 days between Dec and March. Between snow falls the roads are usually clear and dry. I have a 330ci with 18 ich wheels - a really beautiful upgrade and well worth the extra grand. I am looking at winter wheels and tires which I wanted to have on for no more than 2-3 months. I need 17" but what about the width (7" vs 7.5 vs 8.0). My understanding is in snow the narrower the better but if I get too narrow do I give up dry wheather perormance.

I would say a 17X7 with a 225 tire.

Correct me if im wrong, but you said you were going to get the 17's as winter wheel/tire package, so why does it really matter if you have less dry weather traction with the 17's? If you encounter a nice weakend and the roads are dry pop back on the 18's, it should take no more than 30 minutes at the most. And yes the narrower the tire the better b/c more weight per area. 17 x 7 would be ideal
