I've been wondering what type of oil would be best to use for a '95 M3 running a V1 Vortech S/C? I know the type of oil people use depends on weather conditions and etc. My M3 has always been a California car, so what type of oil would be best to use for a M3 that's S/C'd?

I've been using Mobil 1 15w50 every summer. When I used to drive it in spring, let's say where the temperature never exceeds 80, I would use something like 10w40 or 0w40.

i was running mobile 1 10w40 but i switched to 15w40 RP for this spring to try it out. wanted to try something a little thicker because i only drive the car on weekends and at the track/autox and it gets REALLY hot at our autox location.

I had someone ask me once if they could use KY jelly as an assembly lube. Throw a tube of that in there too. ;)
Seriously though I use 15w40 Rotella all year. You would be very suprized at how well it holds up to -30 deg F.

Rotella is known to be excellent oil. After all it's used in diesel fleet vehicles that see extreme cold/hot climates and a ton of mileage. Not sure I'd use 15w40 in extreme cold in my car though. I've been using Castrol Syntec 5W40 in my stage 1 V2 S52 w/o problems, however it's pricey around me at 8.79 a qt so I may switch to Rotella T6 5w40 which is $22.00 a gal & also excellent oil.
Anyway to the OP, you will be fine w/ most of the afformentioned oils, just change it at recommended intervals. VFE suggests every 3k miles w/ synthetic, which is fine if you are beating the crap out of the car day in and day out. I daily drive mine mostly highway, therefore conservatively for the most part and change every 5k sooner. But that's my opinion and there are many floating around on the boards. Enjoy it!

Thanks - I would use oil in this setup. A lot of oil is best. The best oil ... is oil.
