Just wondering about the E24 reference to "the shark". Does BMW have any other nicknames or references to other BMW E-models? With the E24s limited production and notoriety, shark terminology was born. Are there any models with such a following that a special nickname or class of car owners was born?

You probably already know this, but the Porsche 928 is nicknamed "shark" as well:

Off the top of my head, the Z3 Coupe is nicknamed the Clownshoe.

From my experience early 02's (73 and earlier iirc) are often referred to as "roundies" or "roundtails".

Very early 60's Ferrari formula one car also called a shark nose and looked very close to the real deal.

Wasn't there an early prototype of the Corvette called the Mako?
Or maybe it was a concept car.

When the 928 first came I thought the back of it looked like the back of a Hyster forklift.
