Hello all,
I was wondering and, this may sound a little stupid but, I have to ask. If i remove my navi MK2 meaning disconnect it completely will it affect anything other than not having navi in my car ?

Yes you will lose everything in the navigation screen. The navigation screen will go black and you won't be able to see or access anything.

Well that makes since so the mk2 removal will cause a black screen or the actual navi Trimble itself...

I am not sure if removal of the Trimble would cause a black, blank screen but I as well would assume yes.

Ok cool because I just figured no harm would come if I did remove the mk2 because it is dying an I can't afford a new one yet.. So I figured if I take it out then some of the issues im having would go away.
You might still be able to run the radio but it will turn off after a couple minutes every time you turn it on.

Oh well I guess I will just have to deal with it until I can purchase an mk3 or a cheap mk2.

If your navigation unit is dying you can always disconnect it then reconnect it to get some more life out of it. My mk2 was dying and I would unplug it and it would then work for another week before dying again. It's a very short term solution but you might get lucky like i did and have the unit start working again. After disconnecting and reconnecting it again for a month about 4 months ago it's worked fine ever since.
What issues are you having? A black screen with a buzzing like line in grey or white at the bottom?

I mostly cannot change any of the setting its like none of the buttons are responsive from time to time as well as if I GPS something that I know is 50 miles away it tells me its 300miles away..........

So all the issues you are having are strictly navigation related? Does your radio and clock work? Does the OBC still work? If its only the navigation functions I personally wouldn't be too concerned as even if you do replace it you will still have old navigation technology. If you have a smartphone or a TomTom you should be fine.

I cannot get in to the settings to set the clock the buttons are not function correctly at times and if I do get that far into it it normally gets stuck there but as I said I was told my Mk unit is dying...i cannot skip cd's im forced at times to listen to the complete cd or switch them in the changer

Ok that's what I was afraid of, that is a big hassle and annoyance. That does sound like the nav computer as you already stated. Wish there was a temporary solution that I knew of. Maybe someone else has more experience with this specific issue.

So it's definitely the mk2 correct.

I personally can't say 100% that it is the navigation computer but that would be my best guess on the situation.

You can disconnect the navi unit and connect one of its connectors (blue one I think) to the video module... this way the video module will produce the video signal and you will be able to use the screen for everything except navi.
