98 e36 sc in so cal help

Hey guys I'm picking up a 98 e36 that is sc'd it's several hrs away from me and it's been charged by the previous owners so this owner doesn't know much. My question does anybody know of a great shop in so cal area that is honest and can help me go thru the car to get most hp possibly out of it?
Am I limited by the supercharger for whp vs turbo?
I just want a lot of rwt and rwhp.
I wish I had more info on car so I can help u all help me but I'm very limited in info I'm getting.

What's "a lot" of horsepower?
What's your budget?
What blower and tune is in the car now?

Alot if so up in the air really.. I just want to find a good honest shop that will be easy to work with...
I have no clue what brand SC is on the Car and the tune it has.. to be honest the guy is a dufus that is selling it.. he traded one of his cars for it and now whats to get rid of it because it doesnt get good gas mileage... Im trying to set it up for DD'ing and some auto events.. along with drifting..
if he doesnt get me more info I may pass it up but it seems like a killer deal because he doesnt know what he has.
if it does work out I want to get it tuned to have the most whp as possible while being reliable. I just got back from looking at a turbo'ed M3 nice but has some issues so not sure what way to go.. SC vs Turbo.. any help..

ps. I have done a lot of searching by the way. that is why Im here asking for real working peoples help. google will only tell u so much.. Im looking for the truth and finding a good honest shop is hard..
