try the rim and tire section , im not really sure but i think most guys with style 5,s go with a smaller tire and stretch them on
thinking maybe 215/45, or maybe even a 225/45

i have read on other forums that they go with a 205/40/17 to get the tire to stretch that little bit so they can clear the fenders.
Im trying to decide on wheels currently so im wondering the same things.

are you willing to roll your fenders?

As in my sig, 215/50s/17. First time around I had 205/40/17, GOD FAIL!!!! not enough rubber!!!
No roll, rears rub once in a bump ( the rub is so minute that they do not even wear the tire) , front do not.
With m3 front spindles and brakes, front do not rub still, rear camber control arms with .5 deg neg camber no rubbing( thats all it took in camber, half a deg since they were ALMOST there , again, NO ROLLING.

Are you saying that with the 205 tire it will rub, but with the 215, it was better?

Do you have any side pics? I would like to see the /50 section tyres.
I'm with you though. I had 205 and 215/40 and OMG that was like having a rubber band.
I also had a huge gap between fender and tyre, but couldn't go lower as the /40 tyres meant it already was too low.
So two years ago I went for /45 in the same sizes and it's so much better.
I did contemplate /50 but I wasn't sure. Of course the higher the sidewall, the less stretch.
But /45 seems about a good tradeoff.

MP...aren't your rims the correct offset for an e36? That changes things a bit. 5 series rims have about a 20 offset so the max you can go on an e36 is about 225/45/17. At least that's what my research shows and thats what I got for mine when the rims are done with new clear coat.

No my BBS wheels are 8/9" ET26 all around, although the fronts are ET6 really because of the 20mm spacers to clear the bbk calipers.
Rear fender inner lips are rolled flat and about 5mm flared so no rubbing whatsoever, even under full compression.
I wanted some dish so no E36 offsets.
Older pic without the front spacers

No, I think he is saying with 205s they are too narrow, not enough traction, look like crap/too much stretch. But with 215s it is a good compromise with more rubber on the ground for better traction/handling and still no/very little rub.
