So my drivers side glass (auto dim) is shot. Finally got a hold of a replacement mirror from a 2001 740il but I can't get the glass out. I slid the lever towards the door about as far as it seems to want to go but the mirror is still stuck in there. What's the secret to getting these out?

pic shows the lever pushed to the right as far as it seems to want to go.

you could pry towards yourself but youll likely break a few clips :(

Edit: just saw that u bought a new one... so dont be afraid to break the clips... just dont pull too forcefully since there are several wires connected to the glass!

Ditto...since you have the small lever/bayonet along the bottom...it means you have the auto dimming side mirrors.

Once the lever is moved to the right...it should articulate the mechanism on the rear side to where the glass should be able to move from off the 4 clips that secures the glass to the assembly around the motor.

The mirror glass is probably just stuck to the clips from the build up of dirt and grime. For those not familiar with what we're referring to...see the image below of the rear of the auto dim mirrors that have the moving mechanism that secures the glass to the motor assembly:

(this is a regular e38 mirror glass...but the design is the same...the mirror just pops onto the 4 clips with this type of mirror glass...BUT...yours has the mechanism that you actuate with the bayonet/lever that should align the clips with the cut outs on the mirror glass that allows the glass to be lifted off/away from the 4 clips)

A few minutes of heat from a hair dryer and it popped right out. Prior to that it would not budge!
