My last project for my E38 (yeah right) is to fit it with the Euro steptronic transmission computer and shifter. The shifters are easy enough to find (but not get shipped to the US :( ), but the EGS is harder to come by.

Most I have run across in the correct date range for my car belong to 740i models. I do not know how to tell if the vehicle was a sport model with the higher rear end ratio or the normal one. Can I decode this from the VIN somehow? In most pictures, the VIN is visible on the EGS computer sticker.

Here is one I am looking at:

Putting the last 7 into realOEM show it's a 5/98 740i. My car is a 9/97, which used the same EGS part number and software code (GS8.60.2). I just don't know what rear gear ratio it is for.

Also, would this work for shifter purposes? It matches the part number for 9/97.

How do you guys order from ebay.de and have it sent to the US? No one seems to offer that option :confused
