Hello all, I was doing some research on how to properly clean leather on an automobile since I have never owned a vehicle with leather seats (at least a vehicle that I cared for). Now that I have a 2000 E38, I'm all about maintaining my black leather. I googled some stuff up and I ended up with about 50 different ways to clean it (sometimes one method shot the other method down). That's why I ended up in these good ol' bimmer forums. Any bimmer owners out there have some tips? what cleaners should I use? should I stay away from conditioners? Does mild soap and water work? Guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I've used this product line with good results. Their rejuvinator oil seems to work better in hot weather, I put plenty on, close windows and doors and let get real hot seems to soak in better (my opinion). Just my .02

The general consensus when I completed my research was to stay away from oil based products. Hm, so it's been working for you well?

Read the site you apply the oil then a cleaner. You may want to consider getting a parts car rear seat and doing sections with different products to see which works best for you.

I clean with any auto leather cleaner and a day or so later after it is completely dry I use Lexol Leather Conditioner. I'm very pleased with the results.

Generally (weekly) cleaning just a clean damp towel. You can use a mild water based APC as well. For more in depth cleaning, leatherique and leather masters both make really good products.

Thank you all for your input! Just don't want to mess up such a beautiful piece of art.
