4 hours max
REALLY!!!??? holy shit...
I got the quote from http://www.cgmotorsports.com
should I bargain with them or sth? lol...dunno...
their hourly rate is $72cdn...around $55usd...
so around $500cdn ($385usd) installed...:az:

thats a very cheap hourly rate!!!
I was getting $115usd an hour at Patrick BMW
here is Canada...$72cdn per hr is considered expensive...
usually $60-66cdn...$50usd...
I got my springs installed for $61usd..lol
US dealers will always be over $100 unless you're out in the boondocks. indy shops will be around 80, 55 USD is a freakin steal
anyway....7 hours is not reasonable, right?
gee...I dun want to sit in the shop for 7 hours
7-10 hours for a cam kit install, but not just cams
then maybe that guy is BSing

3 hours max if they have the right tools and know what they are doing.
Chris and Rudy are both certified BMW technicians who have years of experience (between the 2 of them) working at Autowest BMW, in addition to the experience at their indy shop working on motors like the ultra rare Hartge 3.5L and other race-prepped motors. There's NO way it should take them more than 4 hours to do cam work.
yeah, chris was the one I talked to...he quoted me 7 hours...
I was like holy shit...7 hours can rip my car apart...
Big Lun, do you know any other shop that will install cams?

the thing is they won't charge you on how long it will "actualy" take them, but will usualy geta book to find out. just like they try to charge 2hrs labor for a valve cover gasket, lol. i got charged 55/hr at 6 hrs or so. bmw dealers here have a 78/hr rate i believe, so i got a good deal from my mechanic
I am having Turner install my cams in my 95 along with new keepers & retainers. His rate is $85/per which I think for the knowledge is a great deal.
I don't have exact time since the car is getting a bunch of work done, oil pump nut, subframe reinforcement, oil pan baffle etc etc.
The time to do and the time charged as prev metioned can be two entirely different things. I personally would go with the best shop in town to do the work, no sense in being frugal with the engine.

yeah, the shop told me according to their books, it is 7 hours.
so they will charge me 7 hours of labour even though it only takes
them 4 hours??? :95

I haven't really looked into it because I plan to install my Schrick 284 cams myself. I'm in the proces of acquiring all the tools I need.
Any competent hi-performance shop can install the cams, as long as they have the necessary tools. (Maybe you can rent the tools from Koala if the shop doesn't have them.) The key is if they can tune the VANOS system. Why don't you call the NA distributor for Schrick, Ron's Parts in Coquitlam? He'll definitely know someone who can do the job. I bought my cams from him about a year ago and he's a decent guy.
If you can't find anyone else, just talk to Chris@CG. As long as you convey to him that you KNOW it should take 4hr MAX (for a competent BMW tech...let alone 2) to do the cam install, he may be willing to negotiate. No harm in trying, right?

Did mine in 3 1/2 hours with 2 people... As per BMW, it's a 4 hour job.
The hard part is making sure your alignment is correct, otherwise you'll end up with a couple cylinders that have zero compression (and bent valves)

I would be very surprised if Chris was going to charge you one cent more then the time it takes him to install the cams.
He's more then fair and very competent when it comes to the internals of BMW engines.
