USB IPOD adapter question

Does anyone know if the IPOD adapter can be installed if the car didn't come with it? We are looking at a 2011 528i and it does not have one. I'm thinking it should be just a plug n play thing under the console, but need to know for sure. there is an accessory in, but no USB.

I can't get a confirmation from any dealer. They all say it has to be ordered that way.

BMWUSA website lists one for $370. You might be able to get one cheaper or go 3d party, but it is available. :)

I think that is just for the adapter!! OMG!
I have one of those, what I need is somewhere to plug it in.

The BMW OEM part number is 65412179540 for the F10 / F11 SA 6FL USB/audio interface retrofit.

Not sure what steps are in the installation pdf, but the comm module has to be coded to recognize the USB. It is not plug and play.
