Hi guys,
Small side project on my M3. I have VEMS on my car and just bought a super cheap second hand ASUS eee PC to fit in the glove box, then I will use the VEMS to feed a 7" touchscreen double din in the center-console as a wideband monitor, having several tabs awailable with different guages. Radio and heater controls will be in the original location, but the 7" will replace the onboard computer and storage compartment in front of the gearshift.
Basic one will be the AFR/Lambda/boost along with various temps EGT/Water/Oil and also oil pressure and water pressure.
Then also tabs with ignition advance, knock, tps, speed, backpressure and basically everything available. Separate tab for warmup, Track driving and so on.
I will use the guages in analog form, just showing the actual numbers (as big a font as possible) and not use the "dials" layout.
This will also enable for some quick adjustments and datalogging straight to the SD port of the laptop.
Test.. (need to get used to the size of this, maybe get a touchscreen pen"

Nice. Easy and cheap way of getting a bunch of data right in front of you. Also having the ability to adjust the tune on the fly, especially at the track is good, too.

I've been planning on doing this for years, now I have the Pro EFI display and may not need to. Very nice man, very nice.

Wow that's sweet! This is how I want my display set up when I go stand alone.

Thanks,
I just bought a second hand center-console of the German Ebay to do the intial fitment. Moving the Zeitronix wideband monitor to the coin tray.. as pr. my excellent MS paint illusration below... saying that.. why not just run the Zeitronix also through the 7" monitor....
Anyway:

Hehe, yes... First BMW world wide to have carbon-ceramic brakes (as far as i know) and fully street legal. Not quite 40k that I paid back in 2007 ;)

I mocked up a carbon ceramic Brembo ZR1 setup for the E36 M3, but there's not much demand for a $4500 brake kit on a $12k car. :D I've been considering the kit for E90 M3's but still not sure if it would be worth it. It's awesome how the rotors weigh so little. The calipers aren't exactly light however.

Calipers are not that heavy, similar weight as the stock M3's, but the disks are almost weightless! So I guess there is a lot saved in unsprung weight.
But true, its overkill price and performance wise, these are around 1500Kw stopping power and ,ade for a 1800kg car. Biggest downside is to have to go with 18" rims. However, I have have tracked these since 2007 and they are fantastic, NEVER any sign of fade even after 7 hot laps at Spa Francorchamps for example.

You are right...the ZR1 calipers really aren't that heavy...they just seem that way relative to the carbon rotors.
I may offer the kit eventually. There's got to be a few guys that want something that you won't see on another BMW.
You are still on the original rotors, correct? What about brake pads? Are those original too? I suppose that it could actually save money over the course of a couple track seasons.

Used to do this with my MS unit on a 7" lilliput carpc I built... but you can so easily accidentally change the tune and leave yourself stranded lol. I just used a laptop even though I had this working.

Could you do something similar with the WAR system, or doesn't that output live data?

You could do it out of any BMW really if you knew how to listen to the diagnostic port.

Rotors are still the same, from a McLaren SLR and they do show some track (gravel pit) damage which is expected. The pads have been changed once. Now I am running Yellowstuff pads, they feel softer than the originals, which is fine because my car is so much lighter than the SLR.

Pretty neat!
I had this idea a few months back, good to see it functional. Is tuning it on the small screen difficult?

Is there a simple way to do it OBDI? Or is a data logger the only way?

You would need a bluetooth keyboard.
