Have the opportunity to purchase a 1999 BMW 280i. I have never heard of this model. Can anyone give me any info on it? Was this car only available outside of the US and possibly imported in by someone?? Would really appreciate some information.

You sure they're not talking about a Mercedes C280?

There is no such thing. That is misbadged, maybe a mercedes C280 badge or so...
The only options here with the number 2 and 8 in them for 99 would have been a 328i or a 528i. But there is a no 2 series, and no 8 liter motor offered in a production vehicle in the US, or around the world.

While trying to search for info on this model. I found this for sale ad, which appears to be outside of the US. It is not the specific car that I was referring to. It's an ad for another one for sale somewhere else.
"BMW 280i M: 1999, dark green, 17" mags, almost black, FH, free flow + 1 stand exhaust, excellent cond. R.48500 neg (Jhb Central) Tel. Amie 011-4937070"
Here's the address for the page that I found this ad on.

No need to be rude. Was simply asking a question and questioning the information I had found. A person can't know if they don't ask. But guess someone like you prob never needs to ask a question because you think you know everything.
