This is something that just recently started happening. When i get up to freeway speed (60 mph) the front end feels like it is loose and will start pulling from side to side (Kinda like torque steer but constant) and at that speed its a little scary. I took the car to Les Schwab and they said the steering rack is fine and there is minimal wear on my ball joints but they should be replaced is the next few months. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this? Because they odviously didnt tell me much.

Check (all 4) tires and wheel lugs and check the stabilizer links. Not sure what "les Scwab" is, but they should have checked more than the steering rack....

thats what I thought but there is no play in the steering. Just has the pull from left to right. The Alignment is a little off too but its been like that for 6 months now and I havent had this problem till now.

Check suspension. Bushings, shock mounts, etc.

Sounds like tie rods or sway bar link bushings to me.

When the tie rod ends go out the vehicle will start to wander and will feel like the front wheels of a shopping cart, they will pretty much go left and right quickly because they are worn out, if they have a grease fitting grease them or just replace them with ones that have a grease fitting. You can check them by lifting the front end up and pushing in on the wheel as well as grabbing the wheel at 3 oclock ans 6 oclock and push in on 6 and pull on 3 then reverse if you hear any noise in there it will be either the inner or outer tie rod, most likely it will be the outer.

Im thinking tie rod too. My car feels like that too. It wonders left and right easily. Also, when I brake at speed of 55mph-70mph, my steering wheel shake like crazy. Weird thing is that it only shake around those speed, anything more or less than those speed then it brakes fine without shaking... I have concluded that its my tie rod, but I havent really looked into it yet.

Should of asked them to do an alignment, they have to check a few things to do an alignment and usually they'll find out what's messed up.

Generally if you don't go to BMW or a shop that specializes in BMW then they are not going to tell you whats wrong because they don't know and don't want to work on it.

Alot of people mentioned tie rods, can't do a proper alignment with bad tie rods on ANY car

The only alignment is setting Toe In , I just went through this when I completely rebuilt my front end...new everything.

If the camber or castor is out you have worn out parts or a body problem

Yeah when i took the car to les schwab for and alignment they said my ball joints on the lower contol arm were bad and there was play but when i jacked my car up to check them out they looked fine just a little work but not split. Ill check the tie rods.

If there's a shake, tie-rods. If it's just following every crack and deformation in the asphalt, and the fcabs, balljoints and sway-bar links are ok, it's the sway-bar bushings. If they're worn they will let the sway-bar move left and right and it won't do its job. Cheap to replace.

for those needing clarification:

Les Schwab is like Canadian Tire ( the ones that change tires etc, not the store only ones )

Track rods, are they what you guys call tie rods? If so I had the same problem with a car years ago.bit of a nuisance, got rid in the end, let someone else have the problem.
