Is my $900 car a $900 car?

Okay, so I bought what was a fairly decent running BMW to play with. Turns out it been holding up even through its idiosyncrasies. I have had to put about $200-$300 into it so far as soon as I got it to make sure it was up to par, but, I wonder..... Can I go around calling it my $900 car?

Oh, and in case your wondering, yes, I am going for the dumbest post award so dont bother asking, it has already been confirmed. :D

well, what model is it? year? miles?

and is your question, really is it worth more than 900? honestly, I have seen running 325i 's that I wouldnt have bought period. but that said a good running car for less than 1k is a good deal in my mind.

Not really asking if it is worth it, just wondering if I can call it my $900 car since i bought it for $900 but then turned around and put $200-$300 in it which makes it a $1200 car, IF I "have" to add the $300, lol.

1993 325 black 2dr w 143700miles(actual??) w a transmission light that comes on 40% of the time on startup(but goes out if you restart the car 1 mile down the road) and cant get past 55mph or 2100rpm's. Interior in 80% shape and presentable but power mirrors blow a fuse when the switch is plugged in. Everything else seems to work but does have a very small oil leak(seems like it leaks when driving as you can smell it when yous top until the oil burns off). Oh, also has a slightly dented up hood and I had to replace the trunk lid(mucho bondo).

sounds kinda rough mechanically. CELs dont really scare me because its could me many things, some of which are minor issues. tranny lights, kinda different. dunno. obviously, might want to get ur codes read just to make sure. preventative maintainence is a must. protect that tranny before it goes, IF there is something wrong with it. might wanna fix ur oil leak too.

as for value, you will only really ever bring ur car back up to its regular value with regular maintainence. its hard to turn a $4000 328i into a $10000 M3-clone. but hey, people have bought dumber things :) its hard to add value to cars. it takes more money than its worth.

as far as ur cosmetics goes, as long as it isnt rusting, its just looks. fix it at ur own leisure. if it IS rusting, remove and seal ASAP.

You would have to read my other lengthy post, but, engine wise, up to 2k room she runs like a wet dream, just before the wet dream. Also, once I get the tranny light out, if it even comes on, she shifts fine. New tranny filter and oil was part of that $300. Oil pan leak, mmmmm, might have to wait for warmer weather!? Found two small rust spots on her underbelly and will fix that in the warmer weather also, speaking of which, at least the AC works, for the summer, lol.

then sounds like it should be fine :) props 2 u for taking care of her. rust bugs the snot outta me, my car has a few small chips in the hood that have started to rust a tiny bit. i see them every time i go outside.

Yea, the tranny is sealed, it is the engine oil pan thats leaking. I cant get the bugger to seal. I am still trying to figure how rust got on the very underbelly of her, fine everywhere else, but, gonna fiber glass that stuff and seal it all up when it gets a little warm out.

Yea, that would drive me bonkers too. I would get some of that rust converter and dab it on there with a tooth pick for now.

haha i actually did. i was working on my car with a friend. i did the first few and then asked him to finish it. he ended up dribbling it over the good paint too.:mad so now i have a few wierd bumps on my hood along with the rusted rock chips he missed. :shifty

oh well haha im planning a CF hood with pins in a year, so im not too worried.

If its resale value is still $900, it's a $900 car. In fact it may be less, since a BMW that won't go over 2k rpm is going to be a hard sale. I have put 7 grand in maintenance and mods into my car that I bought for $3850, that doesn't make it a $10k+ car. It's worth like $2700 now, so it's a sub-3k car.

Noooo no no no no! I am driving that puppy to work everyday 30+ miles one way no problemos, albiet at 55mph and 30mpg. Were just fine for now. When it gets to 300k miles I will resell it for $900, lol.

Few notes: Interior was torn apart to replace the heater core, rims were bent to hell and back, all 3 of them, lol, and the trunk was replaced with a rusty one, which I didnt noticed until after a week from buying it. Guy never said anything about rust and i trusted him. Lesson learned on that one!

i thought that was my car when i saw the video. thats exactly what mine looked like when i got it, (800$ if i can brag ;) ) it didnt have a headliner, no speakers, no radio, no center console, no rear parcel shelf thingy, no shift boot, no window switches, no sunroof motor, no nothing. i found some of this at a junkyard. that was few months ago though. im getting income tax back this week though so i'll be making another trip.

it will be a good looking car though once that taking care of. your paint is in way better condition than mine however. i got fades, chips and the whole trunk is primered from another car.

Paint is in good condition cause it got whacked real good and they did a respray, a very horrid respray. Macco could have done a better job 10 times over. There is so much primer over spray..............

holy crap i have the same K&N CAI, and stick to hold up my hood, and dent in my kidney grille :D looks like my car... except for the bed paint and the mismatched rims haha

I would be impressed if you bought it in VA in my area, but, I am sure there are plenty of these things around different places for $800 or so. But still, $800 is $800, I will give you that, though, sounds like too much parts picking for me, lol.
