hey guys, i just bought a 94 318is from a family friend that has a bad auto trans. I sources a tranmission through car-part.com but its seems there was a trans change after production date 12/93'. but i have not been able to confirm this searching around the forum of anywhere else for that matter. the trans i found was a 93 and my car has a production date of 02/94. thanks in advance.

You probably have a GM type auto trans like our 95. Have you considered just having the original gearbox rebuilt? If you buy a used trans, especially with cars of this age, you never know what your going to get.

yea id love to have it rebuilt but im on the poor college kid budget. its lookin like i might end up doing a 5 speed swap. a friend has a 94 325is parts car with anything in it. if i were to go this route will i be able to use the back driveshaft coupled with the 325is front 5 speed driveshaft? i understand this would have to be balanced but i am unable to locally source a 318 5 speed driveshaft at the time.
