for the past few weeks, i've noticed an oil spot on my driveway each morning. its not a puddle, but a quarte size spot. i had everything cleaned and the celunoid gaskets needed changing, but after that was done, the spot remained. so, i noticed a wetness around the timing chain gasket on the driver's side and had my mechanic do a patch job by putting silicone around it. the spot persists. so before i break down and spend a whole lot of cash on getting the timing chain gasket replaced, has anyone experienced a quarter sized spot on their driveway/garage about front center under the vehicle?

Driver side? Maybe ps leak?
could be your front crankshaft seal that is leaking.

Patch job with silicone? That sounds promising.
A quarter size drop is exactly one drip.

Clean it again and try to locate were it is leaking first!

If it's dripping from the screening under the engine it could be coming from anywhere above, remove the screen park in the same location and see if the spot moves. My .02

You said oil. Are you certain it is motor oil? Identifying the offending liquid is definitely step 1. My garage has just enough spots under the cars that is hard to tell what is what. After any service, DYI or otherwise, I put new newspaper under the car every day. This allows me to see drips if any, exactly where the drip is dripping, what color it is and if it drips a little everyday or is just residual from a sloppy top-off... :D
Unless you can see the leaking at the source from underneath, you will have to trace it back, like motion said.
I guess I could keep the floor spotless, nay...
