Well I am sitting here scratching my head on what to do about a engine fan. Ordered a 318ti fan (slimest one) and the fan was fine but the fan clutch hit the radiator (mishimoto alum) on the front of the rad I have a hair over 2 inches beteeen intercooler and radiator and on engine side I have about the same. So I am looking for solutions, I may end ep running 2 8" in front push stlye but I am open to suggestions.

I take it that you dont have ac?
Im running a spal 16" slim pusher fan inbetween the intercooler and rad.

I used a CCI-1730 from Cooling Components. 17 inch fan which is 2 5/8 inch thick with the shroud, which is the slimmest fan/shroud combination I could find. The fan bracket is slanted so it helps clear things better. I think it is 2800cfm. My radiator is behind the IC and condenser and this fan can keep my temp below 190 in most driving conditions.
Still had to grind/saw the top of the Stewart water pump off to fit a proper fan.

can you say tight fit?

I'd like to see a pic of that fan mount to a mishimoto x-line installed in a e36.
Your install looks good.

Here are pictures of a similar Cooling Components fan on a Mishimoto X-Line. It has been test fitted but not installed. I opened up a can of worms by spacing out and raising my AC compressor about 0.75 to 1.00 inch so I could fit a 4.0 inch oval turbo inlet pipe to the passenger corner of the lower bumper. This puts the lower radiator hose and lower horizontal fan support too close to the AC pulley. Now I have to weld a revised lower radiator hose outlet and alter the lower horizontal fan support bar. It is winter and cooling is not an issue so this project has not yet gotten done. Unfortunately no test fit pictures, but it looks like it would be fine with the AC compressor located normally.

VERY good post Darren. Sweet thin fan application. I'm not incredibly familiar with the E30 fitment, but I hope the OP gets something figured out.

Just ordered the spal jobby, lets hope it works, gonna be very close. Eh I can always take a BFH to the radiator to gain clearance haha

thanks and yeah I don't know about the e30 either

cool! I hope it works out for you! But at least you have other options. The real pita was getting a fan/shroud combo to fit for me. I could have gotten a few different "slim" fans to work, but it would have been without a fan shroud and I would to have moved them more to the "cold" side of the radiator.

The advantage of the Cooling Components fan is that it flows serious air at 2400 cfm, is fully shrouded, and only 2.625 thick. The Spal 2.0 thick fan flows 1100 cfm and the Spal 2.5 thick fan flows 1600 cfm, and neither are fully shrouded so they are much less effective. The Cooling Components fan is 2.625 all the way through, meaning consistent thickness for the fan motor and blades, unlike most caged fans that are thickest at the motor and perhaps only has as thick around the outside edges.

If I had the room I would have gone with a higher CFM but I dont, hopefully this will keep temps down enough. If not I will have to look into other options.

Best fan is still, and will always be the stock mechanical.

Can I get a halleluiah, Reverend Maynard.
THE truth is spoken,
but not all share the spacial luxury of the Large 11 Bladed Clutch Monster.
Many pack their cooling accessories in the front of their vehicle like sardines into a small twist open can.

Why so tight? Thicker radiator can I assume?

this is true. I also think it's also more than 2400 cfm which is nice.

yeah I think so. That thread is where I first got turned on to it. I absolutely love it. When I put it on non stop without a therm switch it would keep the temps under 185. The thing seriously pulls a ton of air.

Yeah thicker rad, was using a mishimoto pusher when I was sc'd but which the inter cooler there is no room for it anymore. I agree mech fan is best but unfortunately will not fit in my car.
