car is shifting hard from 3-4th and has the very slight rpm drop then regains itself as it is at cruising speed on the road. Car has 165,xxx miles. Worth doing a filter and fluid swap or should I just check level and top off? Was going to add some of the Dr Trannys shudder fix too as I read some good things about it here. Is the valvoline max life fluid good to mix with the current fluid?

Change fluid and filter (Filtran only) use ESSO LT71141 fluid or equal, do two additional drain and fills, (no filter) to assure a complete change out, then after that change fluid and filter at your confort level. I look at it this way the transmission has a vent with heating and cooling you get expansion and contraction with that you suck in moisture, moisture= water and contaminates, I like every 18 months. Did you inspect for leaks? FYI I perfer Castrol Import Multi Vehicle $5.50 at Wal Mart. Good luck
