Gentlemen,

I just want to introduce myself after lurking about for some time. I must say the quality of the fora here has increased a lot in the past 5 years!

about myself, I'm Dutch, 30 years old. I got my first E38 in 2002, it was a 1994 730i in Ascotgreen. Loved it, but many problems made me buy an E34 M5 (since I was spending so much on parts, I might as well buy an M-car!) \

But, after a while, we got a 2001 740i traded in, Orientblue with Saffran-yellow interior. Its more beige than yellow, but more yellow than the traditional Sandbeige. I had the car for a year, and bought a diesel E34 after that, keeping the M5 garaged.

However, my E38 blood still crawled to unlikely places and I found a very nice 740d V8 diesel in Denmark, with all ( I mean all) the options. Fax, steering wheel heating, massage seats etc. Very nice. I drove it for close to 20k miles in less than 6 months and sold it on again.

Then, my esteemed friend and businesspartner told me he had seen an L7 for sale. Being low on storage space, we kind of hoped it would be a bad , worn out car and having a good reason not to buy it. However, the car was in fantastic condition, first owner, chauffeur driven and completely unmarked. Even the engine bay was like new, and it drove like a dream despite the near 39 extra centimeters it has over a normal E38.

We still have the car and use it from time to time on special occasions.

Some pictures below, more can be found on our site, www.wheelmen.wordpress.com

cheers!

Yeah, we're really pleased with the car.

The engine is so dry and fires up so enthusiastically, makes you wonder why BMW dropped the naturally aspirated V12. Already did the 'coin test' many times, even on startup they stay put.

The fridge and factory-DVD player (although any gangster rapper would laugh at its size!) are welcome companions on long journeys.

Its a shame the attachments can only be small here, will try to get something on Photobucket

never would i alter anything on that car, except for maybe a CD changer replacement, and a CD43 if not already equipped with one...hold onto the original just in case, but chances are, i would never get rid of an L7 or even drive it daily.

#1 rule of modifying a car: Never do anything to a valuable car that can't be undone in a weekend.

especially to an L7, or a B7 alpina, protection model, etc. regular E38's its not a big deal as they arent risk of being a classic collectable of any kind lol

Thanks!

Are there any L7's in the USA?

@ Jaap

Thats correct, it was for sale on Marktplaats. And its for sale now, making room for new toys. However, if the right buyer doesn't come along, we're quite happy to keep it.

HAha, thats the DVD player. Back in 1998, shock-proof DVD players weren't dime a dozen. Works perfectly in transit, no speed bump can throw it off balance. I'd say the whole unit is about as big as a home-based DVD player.

We really want to keep the car as it left the factory , so no 'upgrades' there!

I see your posts in that "other" subforum... Man, your stable is to die for. You should post pics of this e38 over on e34 as well.

Looks great. Welcome!

Where can I read more about an L7? What is different from a 750il or 740il for example?
