Finally got them mounted on my M3 earlier this week. When I bought the car it came with some crap Nangkang tires. Yokos are UNBELIEVABLE!!! I love these tires. Went for a hour and a half long drive the day after mounting them and pushed the car quite hard. Excellent grip, great response (very important for me), very progressive at limit (I never was surprised with a sudden loss of grip and new exactly what the tire was doing). From my reading on the tire rack they perform as well as others yet last considerably longer. I have 235/40-17 F, 245/40-17 R. A decent amount quiter than the other tires (still a wide max-performance tire so don't expect it to be quiet). Makes the car feel planted to the ground even just driving in a straight line. Very confidence inspiring. I highly recommend these and will definitly buy them again unless something newer and better comes out. Peace

Don't count on your AVS sports reaching full grip until 500 miles after mounting.
If you like them now, wait a few weeks and they will be even better after break in.

dallasbboy is on the money. They will get better as they get broken in. Have fun.

I've heard mixed reviews on the AVS Sports in the rain. Any comments?

I had no problems with my AVS Sports in the rain.
I have them on a 2003 330xi all last summer. Lotsa grip wet and dry but VERY rumbly on bad surfaces and on some expressways up here they feel as if they are out of balance...then the surface texture changes and they are fine again

I hit some rain this weekend for the first time with these tires. Just highway and a little city driving so not a super good impression available. In town I spun first and second with too much throttle (clutch out, not during launch) otherwise just fine. Highway and any corners seem great. Never felt sketchy or unstable. No hydro-planning.

hydro-planning? ;)
I had a set on my 89TII Rx-7. They REALLY helped the feel of the car. They didn't have as much grip at the limit as what I expected, but greatly enhanced the feel of the car.
I did have the opportunity to drive on them in the rain a fair amount. I've never driven on a better rain tire. 70+ (not reccomended for overall saftey reasons) and the car felt just great, compared with my previous tires on the '7 (avs intermediates, which were pretty good in thier own right) it seemed as though the water was sucking the car to the pavement.
My doctor has them on his M and loves them also.
I may just give them another spin (on the M). It could be the grip at the limit issue was more about the car than the tires.

The tread design came from the Yoko racing rain tire. I thought they were very good in our wet test.

Yeah, I just spent some more time driving the fun roads by my house today, raining. Very good. As long as you have a good line through the corner they don't budge. Highway speed (70-80mph) very stable. I definitly am enjoying them. As I said previously, I will definitely buy them again!

I have AVS Sports on all four corners (staggered setup)...and my experience in the rain is excellent. Granted, I've only done freeway driving from around 60-90 mph ...but the car felt fine in torrential rain and even better in after rain soaked freeways.
Out of curiosity, how many miles should I expect out of these tires?

From people's review on tire rack it sounds like guys were getting +20k mi. I clearly remember them saying how they were as good (or close) as many of the more expensive tires yet last at least twice as long. We'll see about that, I tend to take a lot of rather aggressive back-road drives.

I'd put 6+ K on mine and they were lookin' pretty good. (sold the car at that point)

loved them on my 98 M3 2dr-gave me 25 k miles of mostly highway miles-awesome wet and dry grip-that included five track days at Watkins Glen-was very pleased overall-BUT-the tire noise after 12-15k miles will bring you to your knees!!!!they HOWL!!! went for S-03's this time-have tracked the hell out of'em and they are even better overall, I would have to say-

20K+ sounds about right...I've put about 12K on mine so far, but I bought the car used...If I had to guess they had a least 6-8K on them already. But my rears are almost at the tread bar, so it looks like I need to replace them by Fall. I'm strongly leaning toward getting new AVS Sports...but also looking at the Azenis Sports. I hear great things about those, but tread wear life is important to me, and I don't track my car...so I'm still up in the air.
Anyone have thoughts on they would compare?

s-ribbens:
I just mean I might buy a new set of AVS Sports it's still the same tire...but I was also looking at the Falken Azenis Sports...Azenis Sports are fairly new...and I've not seen any reviews on them on this board...but I could be wrong.

I just mounted a new set of AVS Sports last week and must say that they are very quiet compared to the Michelins that were on there before. It is still very cold outside for me to really test the tires but I am sure that they will grip just fine. And they were $300.00 les than Pilot Sports. Just my 2 cents.
