I have light-weight M3 wheels on my M3 and wanted to paint the spokes graphite to give it a meaner look. Went to the local auto store bought wheel spray-paint, cleaned the wheels and carefully masked the lip off. Now my Alpine White M looks mean as shit. No chipping yet, and from others experience doing this it won't. Wasn't hard and the spray paint went on very smoothly. I put three coats on. Good Luck!

-First you have to find someone who can sand blast your wheels to get the chrome off, it will not come off with most chem strips and hand sanding it is out of the question.
-With the Chrome off you will be left with a slight orange peel texture from the blasting, if you are motivated lightly sand the most viable surfaces to make it less noticeable on the final product.
-The road rash can be fixed in one of two ways, either sand the now bare aluminum lip down where there is rash and feather it out 6" or so on either side so you don't have a noticeable depression in the wheel. If the Rash is too deep to sand down and feather out you need to replace the metal taken by the curb. Clean the area well and weld a small bead on top of the damaged area then grind it to match the rest of the wheel
-Next use a primer, if the orange peel is a problem use a high build primer. Sand the primer smooth and repeat if needed.
-next use as many layers of pant as you like sanding between each layer. I would recommend 2 or 3 layers of the Wurth wheel paint made to specifically match European wheels.
-Finally add one or two layers of clear coat.
