A good friend of mine drives a 1995 318is. The abs light is on since few months. A few weeks ago he took the car to get a code reading. The error found was number 24, or, abs wheel sensor right side. Immediately my buddy ordered the part and replaced it. The point is that the warning abs light is still on. He even went to get a new diagnostic, and the same error appears, #24.
I have done some internet research and sure there is plenty of info about it but I decided to post here before doing anything else.
Any help is welcome, thanks.

do a search for the brake pedal travel switch fix diy, the solder tends to come undone and can cause a abs light to come on. Its a real easy fix
edit: found it http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=855807&highlight=abs+pedal+travel+switch (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=855807&highlight=abs+pedal+travel+switch)

I think we can check the switch, but what i find strange is that the error code still points the right front wheel sensor as being the problem.

Could also be a bad wheel bearing. Just a shot in the dark here but I know from experience that a bad wheel bearing will set off the ABS light. does this car have traction control? (ASC)
If it does have that then a wheel speed sensor will cause both ABS and ASC lights to come on at the same time.
Look somewhere else for the issue. The brake pedal switch is a good place to start and its more common than a lot of people think. There is also a known issue with a ribbon cable in the ABS pump unit. You could do some research on that too.
So when he replaced the sensor did the light go off? If it was a sensor then the ABS light should have gone out as soon as he drove the car a few feet. did it go off then come back on?

I am not sure but think this car dont have ASC. Will check that out. The light on the instrument panel never gone out. Even after the replacement of the wheel sensor. The car has less than 160000 km despite the age, so for now i wouldnt consider a faulty wheel bearing. Probably the next thing to check will be the ABS pump unit. Before will also take a look at the brake pedal switch. Relays are OK. Thanks for feedback.

We have checked the brake switch with a multimeter and it is fine. The car has no ASC.
Knowing the age of the car i would bet it is the wiring circuit inside the abs pump unit. It will be the next thing to check. But not right away because it implies to stop the car for at least one day and my friend needs it every day. He will keep driving with the abs light on till he has time to dig inside the pump unit. Will let you guys know about the results.

Let us know. Even with the ABS light on he will still have 100% normal braking. Just no ABS.

Did he use an OEM wheel speed sensor, or aftermarket? It's not unheard of to have gotten a bad sensor out of the box.
See if you can exhange the sensor and try a different one before diving into the ABS module.
