Hi All and Happy Holidays,

The patient: 1995 318i convertible, 5 speed manual. The clutch has been working fine, never jumped out of gear when driving, never had any whining noise for lack of contact. Problem: Drove to work, no problem. Went to go home after work, problem: I always leave my car in neutral with parking brake on when I am on flat ground. Always start it in the same position. Starts right up, went to put it in reverse, applied pressure to my clutch pedal and it felt as if it wasn't attached to anything. No pressure at all, feels like it was flapping in the wind. I can put the car in gear, start it and I get the normal jerking reaction. What is the problem. There's no fluids leaking out of the bottom. Thank you...

Sounds like your master cylinder failed but I would start with checking the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission. Then work your way up to the master, there are a lot of DIY's available.

yeah, clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. They can fail internally and not leak. Kind of a long shot but if its not too far gone you may be able to pump it rapidly to get enough pressure to disengage the clutch and drive home or to a shop.
