question #1- staggered wheels. So it seems like it's for a)looks b) cars with power that might oversteer. So, me having a e36 318i, if i staggered my wheels it would be for looks only. Right?

question#2- 17" E36 Contour wheels. I've searched on ebay and googled for contour wheels on sale. It seems that used ones, for a set of four, it's going to run me around $400. Is that price about right? and, does anyone know of a good website/place where i can find these wheels for a decent price?

thanks for helping a newbie!!:help:buttrock

Answer 1# a.) staggered always looks good on a bmw imo b.) Most high powered rwd and some awd cars run wider wheels and tires to correct oversteer. So staggered on a STOCK 318 would be all looks, lol. I got staggered on my stock 325I and its all looks to me for now...

Answer 2# Ebay is your best bet for good deals on used bmw wheels of any kind, watch out for reps though, some will post up fake oem wheels and say there real. You can try the for sale forum on here or craiglist also. I paid 400 on craiglist for my M68 wheels stag, with one good tire lol.

1. you are correct. If you're worried about performance with our cars you would have a square setup (8-9's all around).

2. $400 is fair if they're not bent and clean. I'd look in the classifieds on bimmerforums...you obviously will get more of an 'enthusiast' transaction, rather than dealing with some weirdo from CL. But CL is decent too for finding a better deal.

$400 should get you a nice set of rims that don't need any work. They might have a touch of curb rash but that's all. Most used rims will have curb rash.

Below $400 and you will probably be looking at rims that need some work to look nice again but they should be straight and true.

Below $250 is a crap shoot. I just picked up a nice set of 17" style 42's for $250. The only issue with them is the clear coat needs to be redone. since these will be summer rims and summer is at least 4 months away around here I'll have plenty of time to refinish them.

Chances are any rims below $250 will have dents or at least one of them will be bent/out or round. I looked for almost a year off and on before I found these. It pays to be patient. I found them on CL and the only thing the add said was 17" BMW rims $250. No pics, no description, no phone number...nothing. You never know what you'll find on CL if you search enough.
