I plan on going with either Mark D or Miller MAF next spring. In the meantime I found this for cheap on CL, seller says it's Dinan but it looks like generic/copy to me. All the Dinans I've seen are labeled as such.

Can anyone verify the origin of this chip?

no name chip? ebay?

bottom row of numbers is, of course, the DME number

Thanks, that's good to know...

That's what I think - the guy claims it's Dinan and that he paid $250 for it new :rolleyes

Even if it's a good (as in safe) chip, the scam factor rules it out.

Hey Dude,

This is good timing.

I have a "Proformance" (ebay, I think) 535i chip I have no use for. I can't compare it to stock, as the car had it when I bought it, but the car ran/drove/started great and had way more top end than I had expected.

I'm going turbo and am installing a standalone engine management system so I just don't need it.

I live in the lower mainland - $20 I'll toss it in an envelope (I have a little hard case for it).

Shoot me a pm if you want it.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer on the proformance chip, but I'll pass.

That's definitely not an original Dinan chip. Could be a copy. But who knows...

exactly... if I know nothing about the chip and no one here does either, it's not worth it at any price. Thanks to all for the input.

It could easily be a copy of a Dinan chip. It's extremely easy to copy an EEPROM. Most eBay chips are straight up copies. The question is of what.

That is the question. If the guy had said it's a copy or at least said it's a "performance chip" without claiming Dinan or any other brand, that would be one thing. But he lied, so it's another.

I have no problem with people who do install copies, for myself I'll stick with the originals. In this case I just wanted to verify my suspicion that this was not a real Dinan.

Even if I wanted to install a copy, I wouldn't do it without knowing what it's a copy of, what it's doing, it's rev limit, etc.

Yup, skip the mystery chip. I've had Dinan & EAT chips in my car. Dinan was nicer than stock. EAT was much nicer than Dinan. Just get a chip straight from D'Sylva and call it a day.
