Hey

I was putting together my car(just swaped out the engine, a m44 for another m44) i got to the spark plug wires and noticed that on the ignition coil it says sz1. sz2. sz3. sz4. I marked which wires went to which cylinder but contrary to common sense sz4 did not go cylinder 4 but to cylinder 3 [winsheild cyl 4, cyl 3, cyl 2, cyl1 Bumper] and sz3 went to cyl 4 But sz2 went to cyl 2 and sz1 went to cyl 1

So i was wondering if this is normal?

Im my own opinion i would think that sz1 would go to cylinder 1 sz2 to 2 ect.. and the computer would control the firing sequence.

The reason why im not sure is because the car never ran with the blown engine i bought it with.

Try arranging them by wire size. All the ignition wires should be a different length but im not 100% sure, just keep trying different combinations untill it runs smooth.

Buy a bently manual thats always useful:)

Still looking for a answer im a little worried about putting them in the wrong way. If anyone can tell me how they're arranged on a m50 that would be great as well.:help

Thanks

Well number four is the longest because it wraps and curls around under the cover. But they should all have the number to which cylinder they correspond with written in green.

The worst that will happen is the car will not run.

What you need to know is the direction the distributor turns, and where the #1 plug is connected, and the firing order.

Plug the wires onto the plugs they are marked for, 1 on 1, 2 on 2, and so on, then connect the #1 into the correct hole on the distributor, and the remaining wires in the firing order according to the direction that the distributor goes around.

Hey thanks Ill try looking to see if the wires are numbered in green.

My distributor doesn't turn its just a straight coil.
