Had a salvaged manual transmission put in my 1994 325i about a week ago....

The new transmission is working okay, but if the car is moving the tiniest bit it clunks a bit when shifting into first...not loud but you can feel the resistance....

My mechanic put in Auto Transmission because that's what the manual recommends (even though it is a manual) but I've seen one or two posts on here where folks have recommended Red Line MT fluid.

Any chance that would take care of my problem? Love to hear from people who went from Dextron to a synthetic and whether there is a noticeable improvement....

I talked to a service desk guy who thought a new shifter bushing might help...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Reid

Just an FYI...DEXRON actually IS synthetic. The type of fluid you use is determined by the sticker on the tranny. All e36 manual trannies have a large sticker that tells whether to use ATF or MT. Using ATF isn't as crazy an idea as some people think. Its synthetic so its designed with enhanced lubricants and ATF has detergents and anti foam agents in it that actully make it a great choice for manual trannies too.
