I got carsoft installed on an old laptop with a serial port and I have the carsoft cables and interface. I plugged it into the 20pin port and it only sees a few modles. It wont communicate with the DME.

I connect to the OBDII port and it reads the DME and allows all coding functions but won't talk to a lot of other modules.

Can someone tell me what's going on here? Shouldn't I be able to talk to the DME from the 20 pin if it works in the OBDII port?

Check their website for a list of compatible control units. I have a 94 E34. It will allow me to access all the modules except DME. When I checked the website, Carsoft will not access the DME for that year. Carsoft is a crappy program IMO. I have a 2004 E60 that it kept telling me had an airbag fault when it really didn't.

...yes I agree - I also found it can't handle all the different connections well. one some models it works on others it doesn't - but what is even worse is that you don't even know if what it shows is true or not. The best is to use the real thing
