Does replacing the stock head unit in a BMW 325i disable any security or any of the features in the car? I bought a mp3/iPod head unit and my father is trying to tell me that some features in the car rely on the head unit. Is this true?

I don't think so ... many members here on the bimmerforums.com have replaced the head unit to something of current technology .... I had mine installed by the retailer and there has been no problems or issues ... this would certainly be the case for some newer north american cars but not on an E30

Since your posting in an e30 forum I'm assuming your talking about your e30...

You head unit doesn't control anything but music. You have an OBC with a clock and temp and date etc. next to it. So replacing the head unit will only Improve your sound and capabilities. This isn't true for most newer bmw's but for the e30 switching to a new head unit is a great improvement if you don't mind sacrificing the stock look. Even the fader switch above the head unit will still work once you swap out the head unit.

Hope this helps.
