Well I went out to the race track yesterday to a test/ tune event hoping to run good 14 sec the very first run I had a good launch and was doing good than shifting from 3rd to 4th I hit 2nd gear, blew something in my engine not sure yet, but I can say that I did the money shift,
"the shift that costs u money" F$&@!!!!!!!!!!!
But I still ran a 15.3 hahaha blew my engine bout 3/4 way down the track
Ripping the engine out today hopefully can diagnose the problem maybe a bent valve

One of the reasons why I don't go to the track... :-(

Ouch. That's no fun. That's why I shift backhanded. Good luck, man.

Maybe a few bent valves. What is it with people not knowing how to change gears recently?

Looking at at least a new head, I hope you didn't mess anything else up.

Thanks for the words of encouragement my fellow bimmer peeps, it's a very tough learning lesson. my 98 m3 is my baby. Can't say that I wont take it out to the track again but I know that I will not allow my self to blow another part in the engine

Missed shifts happen. Usually I know that I've misshifted before the cluth comes all the way out.

Does the engine still turn over or is the crank seized?

The real shame here is the lame duck US motor. A few hundred rpm past redline and the head and crank give up.

Do this (http://www.shortshifter.com/techniques2.htm), and hopefully you'll never repeat this situation again

Sorry brother,
Been there, done that. After they repair the cylinder head, it will be better than new with tighter tolerences. While you are at it, change out the tranny mounts with urethane ones from UUC. It might not be all your fault.....with the motor and tranny on seperate mounts, there can be shifting under hard acceleration, especially on an older car with soft mounts....
...oh ya, shift from 3 to 4, palm away from you..3 to 2,palm towards you...

Good luck

You're not the first or last to ever do it... still sucks none the less.

hope everything gets figured out and it doesn't cost you your car. eek!

Sorry about your car, and sorry to be anal, but track ≠ drag strip.

The plan is to replace most internals that I can, I'm saving a crap load of money cuz I'm not taking it to a shop, 2 of my boys are licensed mechanics and are helping me with the work. And it's going to give me a great chance to really get my hands dirty and get to know my engine alot better.
Shifting with my palm away is something that I'm going to start doing
Thanks for the heads guys

Did check the intake valves they checked out to be ok, so we r assuming that it's the exhaust valves that are screwed

While I agree completely, in OP's defense, a lot of places have both and he may have been using the term loosely.

That's not a race track. That's a straight line.

True. I think it's worth clearing up for the benefit of those who might be reading the thread and getting an impression about nomenclature, though.
