View Full Version : My caliper bracket is grinding against my brake disc! Wheel bearing issue?

My right rear caliper bracket is grinding into my brake rotor. I thought that my brake pads had worn down to the metal so I replaced the pads and rotors and it's still having this problem. About a month prior to this, the rear of my car has been making a low humming sound. And eventually I noticed that my caliper bracket started eating into the brake disc.

I think this could be a wheel bearing issue, but has anyone ever come across a wheel bearing issue causing the caliper bracket to grind against the brake disc? Maybe the bad wheel bearing is causing extra play that is allowing the caliper to grind away at the brake rotor? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Does it grind in one place or all the way around?

On hard turns to the right I am experiencing this. Whistle on slow tight turns and a scraping on harder turns. Its even worse with someone in the back seat.

Can only be wheel bearing or loose bolts. Have you jacked it up and tried moving the wheel by hand? Might check the torque on the axle bolt. Often times a re-tighten will make it better...for a short time.

check bearing ASAP. the car would also handle like ARSE if the rear bearing is loose. ask me how I know.

Wheel bearing is almost certainly the culprit.

127,000 miles. I'm most likely taking it to a shop to get it checked out. Seems like wheel bearing according to what you guys are saying, but I didn't know the wheel bearing can cause the caliper bracket to be scraping against the brake rotor.

What holds the hub in position (the thing the wheel bolts to)? What keeps the wheel rolling without wobbling? It's the wheel bearing. The caliper bracket isn't moving, your whole wheel is wobbling under load.

Problem solved.

Issue was definitely the wheel bearing.

Thanks guys!

but I didn't know the wheel bearing can cause the caliper bracket to be scraping against the brake rotor.

Because you were thinking backwards , the wheel bearing was allowing the rotor to scrape against the caliper bracket .
