Had Depo's on my E36 M3. The clips were already broken by the PO, and the side signals were rigged in. He also had ridiculous 10k bulbs that needed to go. So I decided to go with the DJ auto's for replacement. After research I found the DJ's had softer plastic, less likely to snap. Could have been that, or aged plastic but the DJ's definitely were softer, and seemed less likely to snap clips. I also heard the downside to DJ auto headlights is the easy to break adjustments. I convinced myself I could be careful enough when adjusting them.
Unfortunately, after going with the DJ's I had some issues. After doing the flat cutoff retrofit, I carefully adjusted them. The adjustments were way off out of the box, and to get them low/ high enough I ended up breaking on of the adjustments. So I had pretty 4,500k HID's with flat cutoffs, yet bounced all around when I hit bumps, and never stayed adjusted how I wanted.
The solution:
A buddy of mine had an extra set of Depo's already retrofitted to have a flat cutoff. (I had previously thrown my old broken ones away) we decided to attempt something I haven't heard of being done. We combined the two strong points of each company. Depo's casing, with stronger adjustments, and DJ auto's glass, and stronger clips. I expected it to not match up at all, but they fit together perfectly. I was also worried about the seal, but have ha no fogging issues. Funny when both the depo's, and DJ's in their "factory" form both would get a little condensation.
All in all, am I reccemending buying both sets and only using half of each? No. But if you have extra sets floating around it may be worth a shot if you've experienced similar issues. Buying both kits new? might as well go with the fancy Set and retrofit those.
As always, I highly recommend sticking around 4,500k, and ALWAYS retrofit those cutoffs.
