2011 528i Startup Knocking Sound

My 2011 528i makes a knocking sound once the engine is started. Once I begin driving the sounds goes away. Is there anyone else experiencing this knocking sound?

Does it happen just when the engine is cold, or do you get the same knocking cold and hot?

Check and see if it is actually a knock or just a rough idle, if it is either, it is going to cost you a trip to the steeler. The rough idle can be caused from a program problem or a fuel reg problem, a engine knock, not sure but am betting it is not good, either way, it is time for a loaner.

The BMW service department told me the knocking sound was a result of some bad lifters, which needed to be replaced. They were replaced and I no longer hear the knocking sound any more. I just got back my vehicle on today.

Glad to hear it is fixed, this is the first I have heard of bad lifters, did they have to do anything else?

My work order reads....Customer states vehicle is making a knocking noise...DIAG and confirm tap coming from exhaust side at startup. Remove and install exhaust HVA's on CYL N2 only. Confirm repair with multiple cold startups.

My car is sounding very smooth now after the service appointment. It took them about three days to complete the job which included getting BMW to approve the necessary repair.
