Greetings Guys, this is my third thread here, I have a 06 convertible mini cooper which is acting weird in two times, first time that this occur was in a Friday night going with my wife to a movie, when I turned off the engine I noticed that the engine fan still running even without power, so I assumed that probably is a normal function due to the high temperatures on the summer season, after the movie I heard the fan noice really low which inmediately I know that the fan drained out all the energy from my battery, I called a towing service company so they can boost up my battery and then in home I did some troubleshooting steps to identify what's going on. I unplugged the negative pole to see if it turns off but when plugging it back again automatically turns on, well I went to the relay box and unplugged the fan relay, wait about 10 mins and plugged back again, the fan finally shuts off but this issue it happened again this past weekend I did the same process and the fan is working properly but I believe that this is some kind of alert that my car is giving me to fix something before it finally broke so many other parts. Does anyone here knows what's going on? I heard on some other threads that it could be the thermostat, some others said the relay is giving his last working hours and the most radical encourage to change the whole fan.
Thanks for your help

Check your coolant level. Also does the sound come from the front or sound like its under neath the vehicle. Where you located

There is a LONG discussion of the cooling fan not turning off on the North American Mini forum. This is a common problem on '02-'04 Minis, and not so much on the '05 and newer cars. The early cars have a green ceramic slow (fan) speed resitor that cooks and causes the fan not to shut off. Its located in a small duct at the top right side of the radiator shroud and is impossible to reach without removing the assembly. Most folks have replaced their entire fan assembly (including me) to correct the problem. I used to have to unplug the harness connector at the radiator when I shut the car off, remembering to plug it back in when I restarted the car. The offending resistor is not a replacement part, though I have retrofitted a different type from a BMW 528 so I could use my original fan in another application.
Search on NAM and you will find pages of discussion on this problem.

Thanks a lot Guys for your feedback I really appreciated it, for the moment it seems that unplugging and plugging the relay works however, my cooper is driving me crazy, now I'm having another issue that I really don't know how to address it. Early in the morning when my wife tried to start up the engine nothing happened, when I came from work I tried to start up the engine and is the wearest thing happening, it makes the noise from the starter trying to start up, all the interior and exterior lights works properly, the alarm as well and finally the battery has the green light which means that the battery is ok. I'm assuming that it should be an electrical issue but coming from where? Does anyone knows whats triggering this problem?
