most trouble free model (2001- 2006)

Am thinking of buying a newer bimmer,I currently drive a 97 528i.Of the model years 2001-2006 is there one that stands out for reliability and one that I should definitely avoid?

Avoid: Pre- (and possibly post- too) facelift E65/66 7-series.

E39s are great car, as you already have one.

I was leanin towards a 5 or 3 series. I really like the X5 but everyone I know that has had one says to stay away

my E39 has had lots of cooling issues and electrical problems too. But I sure love the ride

X3 has good reliability. For a 3 series, TrueDelta shows the 2004 would be good and the coupe in 2006 as the lowest. Strangely, 2005 is high.

I'd say X3 is probably the least problematic of all BMWs 01-06
