you should be able to pick up about 20-50 whp with a hta86. its all about the lbs. each turbo flows to determine how much of a difference one could make. but ive ran a hta86 turbo on my evo from just a regular 35/82 and notice a huge difference! good luck with it hta86 is a great turbo.

Are you converting the 35r into an HTA wheel, or just buying a whole new HTA unit?

Unfortunately there is no definitive answer to this question, only speculation. Not many have really done this swap over and shown results, or ONLY changed the turbo out to show the difference.

Significant difference shown here at nasioc. Are all variables the same/equal? Same vehicle, same temps, same PSI, same barometric?
IDK

@Z3speed4me (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=3957)

If I change it will be an upgrade from my gt3582 this is the better deal for me.
I think I make or a little more bigger injector for the moment I have 680cc

10-4, an EVO is NOT an M3,

but it gives a better idea than saying "we don't know"

reply from FP:

The 86HTA flows 75lbs per minute and it still retains same turbo spool up as a regular 35r Shipping directly to France is $230.00 US Upgrade takes about a week once we receive.

With the improved results I have seen from the other blue shoe I might go hta with a bigger intercooler....it looks quite promising.
Maybe after this house stuff is over I can focus on the car again.

This is pretty much what Ive been looking at. I feel that 700 whp would be attainable with 28-30 psi on our motors. I will likely be attempting this next year once I get the car back up with E85.

Wonder what 38 psi on a 3.3L BMW I-6 would do??!!
Quote from Evo Owner:
"While we were at it we decided to add some Q16 and left the boost ~38psi and Laid DOWN THE LAW!! 804WHP and 650 wtq. HOLY *****!! "

RE power on the HTA3586:

Aaron is a highly competent Mitsubishi tuner near me, and his personal car made 790whp on a non-optimistic AWD Dynojet using a 2.35L stroker engine, E85 fuel, and 40psi boost tapering to 35psi boost. His car has an undivided tubular manifold and used the Garrett GT 4-bolt T3 0.82 A/R turbine housing.

RE 38psi on a S50/S52:

I've seen people post that 17-18whp per psi increase is normal on our engines (of course until either the compressor or turbine is tapped out). Let's play with estimation math: when starting with a 220whp N/A engine, and adding 38 * 18 = 684whp, the result is roughly 900whp, and you better have a bigger turbo than a HTA3586. In fact a HTA3794, which is the biggest FP turbo that I know of, still might not have a large enough turbine flow to support that kind of power. The minimum size that I've seen make that power more than once on stockish motor Supras has been the PTE 7175. The new BW race cover billet S362 would probably do 900whp though and that's only a 67mm - but try to fit it in a BMW engine bay. hehe.

reguardless of power gains the hta86 is a way better turbo than a regular 35/82. it it leaves more room for more power to be made easier :)

Becareful with going the HTA route. While they do make more power, I have been told by a couple reputable mitsu guys the turbos don't last. It might not be a big deal for a BMW because you won't be running the type of boost the mitsu guys do, but just something to consider.

I've been running on for 6 months on 38 psi no smoke no shaft play nothing. I haven't heard to much of hta problems unless you go with the billet x wheel

I haven't done much with the current setup yet. I'm hoping within the next few weeks to get it fully tuned. I have a road block being my DS at the moment once I figure that out I will go onto tuning/getting it tuned with Roadkill tuning. We shall see what the HTA can do.
