I just disassembled my throttle body so I can replace a leaking gasket and I noticed that the butterfly valve was made of 3 parts - the valve (big round plate) and two bolted plates to it in the shape of half moons. Those plates were very thick and in the WOT position I think they restrict the air flow a lot.
Judging by their shape they are there so in the first few degrees of throttle travel you don't get a lot of throttle response and in this way it lets you drive very smoothly... But I don't like the way this thick plates restrict the air flow... Has anyone removed them? Will there be any problems with that or any gains in that respect?
