HPFP 101 - Someone explain?

I'm curious. What is this HPFP problem that I've been reading through the forums and is it applicable to 2011 3 series? I heard there was a massive recall from '06 to '10. I just want to be more informed.

The High Pressure Fuel Pump that is recalled is used on the N54 engine. This engine was installed on the 335i and 535i models, and some other models but I am not sure which ones. The 328i doesn't have the N54 but some other engine that is not affected by the issue with the HPFP.

I am not very read up on the issue but honestly, the issue was mostly just a thing that the media tried to blow out of proportional. It is a problem and there are some people on this forum that have been through many fuel pumps but it still is not the majority of cars.
