running weird...

well i bought this car on sunday, not used to working on a bmw (used to a lexus) and it started to run very odd tonight..

its running very rich, it smells like straight gas coming from the tailpipe and its verrrry strong. and it idles weird when in park.

took a look under it earlier to fix this annoying rattle and found out the cat is no good, rattles, sounds like marbles are inside it (but it passed smog in june?)

so i kind of forgot where i was going with this, but what do you guys think it could be?

You could have a number of things causing your extremely rich condition, but that condition is likely the cause of your failed cats.

Start with:
- change all the spark plugs
- check or change all the injectors
- check for vacuum leaks
- check all the coils.

well i put i put 91 (premium) in it and it isnt doing it anymore... so guess i cant put 87 anymore...

Haha, nope. If i remember correctly, all the E34 motors take 89 and above except for the M20. If you chip your motor, only 91+

Probably chipped and didn't know about it. Well, that was an easy fix.

nope.. i lied. the 91 helped a little, doesnt happen as often (but still happens).. have a day off here soon and gonna try and figure it out
