I would really appreciate some advice from anybody who has dealt with this product. I read one thread about a guy with a 540 installing one but nothing on a 535. I need a new fuel pump and considering there not one of the cheaper parts i would like some opinions on where to purchase one. I read alot about fuel pumps going bad and there must be a known solution majority of the people take but ive searched and cant really find anything about where to buy one, only DIY how to swap them.
This website seems to carry walbro 255 for 1988 535i. My question is will it fit my 1992? Is it necessary? Will it require a tune? its only 143 compared to most Bosch pumps ive seen going for about $250. Im not worried about gas milage , and I will be swapping them my self.

BMA has a Bosch for 218...prices keep fluctuating? I always prefer going with original parts but if I can save some loot on quality aftermarket im all for it

Another option- pick up a Pump from a friendly AUTOZONE and install it right now and be done with it?? AIRTEX is the brand they carry, any opinions on that? For the same price it would be stupid not to get bosch. ..

if you go to ROCKAUTO.com and put the correct criteria in they have a Bosch fuel pump for 119.00, seems like a steal, is it used? Whats the deal with this site, my friend just referred me it it?
And lastly im now looking at ebay they have fuel pump as low as 59.99, I cant imagine that is what I need, with the large price gap im not sure what to buy. Thanks!

My inclination would be to go with stock, oem. As for the Wallbro, it's not going to hurt anything, but your engine is not capable of utilizing the extra flow capability. So there's no point. The fpr is going to keep fuel pressure at spec regardless of how much flow it's seeing (provided it's working correctly anyways). I would not buy something from autozone unless it was oem.
I'm reasonably sure my pump is original and it has 154k miles on it and 21 years. If I needed a replacement, imo you can't go wrong with oem on a stock vehicle.
I've bought stuff for my Tahoe from Rock Auto. They seem fine, but I'm still going to buy my bimmer parts from my already-trusted sources. As for the low price, it might be just the pump, rather than the whole sender assembly. Replacement can be done that way, but the way I figure it, with my luck my sender would quit working shortly after I replaced the pump. So if it ever breaks I'll just buy the oem assembly.

I've bought from Rockauto many times. Good service and they carry a wide selection of brands and often excellent prices. Their Bosch is certainly not used. I checked the site and it is a wholesaler closeout. Thus the price. Jump on it.
I bought some hood lift supports once from them and they arrived missing a few mounting pieces. No issue. One call and they sent me new ones and told me to keep the first set as it was too much hassle for them to deal with the return postage.

STRAD- I was thinking the same thing, but I thought the sender assembly was a whole different part, I dont think any of these products I searched have the sender with them right? I would like to replace it all at once to.

Here's the pump i used. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-518i-520i-525i-525IX-530i-535i-540i-Fuel-Pump-88-95-/380339661015?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1994|Model%3A540i&hash=item588e02a8d7
If you need the pump asap this probably wouldn't be the best option though. It does have a lifetime warranty however.

I have a walbro pump in my 525, no big deal. I got it used from a guy with an M3, they installed it, wrong, and replaced it.
Turns out they made the elect. connections wrong. pump was fine, paid 40 bucks for it.

This is the one I put in 2+ years ago...compares to the Walbro...small amount of soldering to do and I think there's a DIY for the install.

is this pump for 535? Do all e34's have the same style inline pumps? --

before I order this one I have a question, did you follow this thread (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1245212) when installing the pump and doing the solder fabrication? Thanks! I wanna order this right now.

I believe we all have similar set-ups and yes, that is the DIY I used.
The hardest part was separating the old pump from the plastic holder w/o breaking it. Took some patience which I don't usually have. Also I hard a coworker do the soldering cause I suuuuck at it.
Now go buy it and get back on the road!

Do NOT use an Airtex pump, unless you feel like replacing it again in under a year. They are complete trash. I used to work at Advance Auto and we had multiple commercial shops that flat out refused to buy Airtex because so many of them went bad.

I would just go with a OEM unit. Those things last a long time.

I popped the new fuel pump in today, easy job. Again I couldn't believe how fast it was shipped, but more importantly my car still doesn't start. Very very rough idle if I hit the gas, but it still dies...any other ideas or does it look like im gonna have to tow it to a mechanic?

i would go whatever is cheaper and require the less work.
Get one from the junkyard. seriously. These things barely ever stop working. And before you change it, try jumping the wire and see if it turn. It might just be a broken wire or a bad ground. or the relay. didint read your post maybe you checked it allready. if so, sorry about that.

Have you tried jumpering the pump to make sure it's getting power? There's several threads that detail the procedure, and it's pretty easy. Try doing the jumper trick and see if it turns on properly. Then change your fuel filter. ;)

YOu didn't accidentally swap the feed and return lines right? Ask steve547i all about that.

thats new as well...everything has been maintenance on this car, I dont get it...
I was jiggling around the fuel lines today, everything looks in good shape, I took off the line to the FPR, cut off the end, and put it back on...IDK what it was that I did but the car was just running for me, and running well...Im still goona take it to a shop on Tuesday and have them go through but its feels good knowing I dont have to get it towed!..I put half a can of lucas seafoam treatment in the fuel tank and im crossing my fingers!
