Getting bored making sandcastles out of krugerrands and experimenting with paper-money paper mache, I thought something else, loud with ITBs was in order.
I acquired this S38 the other day and have been spending some time getting it buttoned up and running nicely before pulling it out of its carcass.

So far the motor has gotten a valve adjustment, and a virtually perfect hand-me-down cap and rotor.
Old cap/rotor looked like this:

New-ish:

Still some work to be done on it. Needs intake gaskets and probably vacuum lines, also some fuel injector O-rings.
Not sure what to stuff it in, but time will tell.

Anyway, all satire aside. The motor runs pretty well.
Darren- Ill be keeping this one. Never know when you'll need parts right?

You are so right! I didn't go to college, and I'm certainly not in the process of getting any advanced credentials such as a CPA license... No, I just kick it all day and spend about an hour each day putting $100 bills into the shredder, because I can!:redspot
Seriously though, there's a local guy who has a full set of M5 seats he needs to get rid of, said he'd take $400. I think it's the same guy in San Rafael that had that questionable S38 you were thinking of picking up. Don't know if you or anyone you know need seats..

Ah sorry, I thought this was going to be a spare motor of sorts. I vote e21 or 2002. My friend is working on an m30 2002, he has the motor pushed really far back as to not interfere with the balance of the car too much.. You could easily do the same with an s38. Whats the whole car look like?

Well today Desertpir8 and I got our hands dirty. The engine had some serious vacuum leaks as well as horrible leaks from where the throttles seal against the head.
The parts I had ordered the other day came in. New silicone vacuum lines, VCGs and intake gaskets.
We had a bit of a surprise when taking things apart. It appears that the head has been off at some point. Possibly a top end? Possibly head gasket? Not sure. Compression numbers are good and the valves arent burned. Cant complain.
Heres what we started with.

Np Logan. Get her idling and spray all around there with carb cleaner. Injector seals were shot too. Injector seals were 20 bucks for all 14 and tb gaskets were ~6.50 each. Takes 3.
