Hi
We are currently on holiday in France and having a bit of a nightmare with our 5 month old Cooper S.
We had an uneventful run down, but noticed that the radiator fan was on a lot - we have never noticed it in the UK.
Fair enough, we thought, the weather is pretty hot here - mid twenties.
But...on Saturday evening we were filling up with petrol and the fan was going beserk. By the time we drove another few kilometres, the warning message came on and the engine went into "limp home" mode - i.e. no power and about 50mph limit.
There's a much longer story about the recovery of the vehicle to the nearest dealer (damage caused by winching onto a flat bed), but that's now subject to a complaint into Mini UK and Mondial Assistance.
Anyway, the dealer has updated the car software and said that the car was not actually overheating, but the sensors were sending the wrong data. I spoke to a UK dealer to check the validity of that and he said he heard similar problems with 5 Series sensors.
So, since "the fix", we've continued to notice the fan come on quite a lot, and especially when the engine is switched off. Generally stays on for about 5 to 10 minutes once switched off. The fan seems to alternate between crazy speed, medium speed and off, but not in that order - it's very random!
Have you noticed issues with this yourselves? Do you notice the fan is on all the time? Any overheating issues?
Thanks in advance!
John
The temparature here is now around 30 degrees celcius and the car has now put up the Engine Overheat warning - back to Square One and back to the French BMW dealer in Angers! :mad
Wish I'd brought my Volvo now...
