My 540i won't start. It will crank but not turn over. While it's cranking, the oil pressure sensor light comes on. I ordered a tps and maf sensor a few days ago but am pretty sure with these new symptoms they aren't the culprits. The car was running until a few days ago. It started hiccuping on a short drive and nearly stalled out on me when braking hard. I got it home and haven't tried starting it until today. I'm leaning towards a bad cps. What do you guys think? I forgot to mention the other day when it was still running there was no cel on which is what has me really confused.

cps or fuel pump. cps wont throw a CEL, it will just die on you out of the blue. try cps first

I literally just put a 2nd new fuel pump in it last Thursday because i thought i might have got a cheap quality one from ebay the first time. This car is definitely starting to give me a headache though. :eyecrazy

You have to check your fuel pressure to make sure it's getting good pressure at the rails. Mine was intermittently failing, same symptoms but no start. I think you can rent one out in auto zone somewhere. I bought one.

What's up with the oil pressure sensor light coming on though? I had never even seen this light come on before until today.

Is this related to the current problem? I think you may need to drop the pan and check the oil pump bolts and see how many are loose... Definitely do this first before starting the engine again.

I already did this about 2 months ago. I ended up only finding 1 bolt in the pan though thank god. Oil levels good and only down about a half a qt so i don't think the problem lies there. This was the first time i've seen that message come up since owning the car so i believe it may be related to whatever is going on.

I know some cars will not start if the oil level sensor is bad, i have no clue is the m60 is one of them.

Is that the sensor in the bottom of the oil pan? I'm pretty sure it's still working because when my passenger vc was leaking it let me know i was low on oil. This just says oil pressure sensor. Where exactly would the actual oil pressure sensor be located?

Turns out this WAS the cps gone bad. I replaced it yesterday and now the 540i runs like a champ again. I believe this has been intermittently acting up on me for awhile now but could never figure out what was causing it. I guess it just decided to finally kick the bucket with little to no warning signs at all. Definitely wasn't the easiest thing I've ever had to diagnose.

usually isnt since theres no codes thrown for it. and some of the time the resistance checks out okay across the pins, but still is the culprit. glad you got it fixed
