Coding an E60/E61 through the OBD2 socket is generally considered a bad thing to do I believe. It should be done through the fibre optic interface.
Anyway I was talking to an (ex) BMW technician the other day and he told me that when the E60 came out it was considered to be a little premature by most dealers and they were reprogramming cars all over the place.
This dealer usually programmed five E60s a night will a full coding taking up to 20 hours - all done through the OBD2 socket. Quite often one module would fail and that car would have to be done again the next night, some cars took a week to get programmed!
