general mini question

Drove a friends mini yesterday and noticed that it starts to pull hard off the line but when it shifts appears to start low and build then pull hard again. Kinda like the transmission is slipping or if it were FI like the boost wasnt comming on until the rmps built back up.

Is this normal or do I tell him that he needs to have it checked. I have never driven one and have on idea how the car handles other than what I experienced yesterday...Normal driving the car is fine and even at highway speeds I didnt notice it at all...

About the car its convertible and not the S auto and thats all I know just curious more than anything but would like to let him know seeing that the car is under warrenty.

So it's a non S automatic? I've never driven one, but I'm guessing they aren't the torquiest cars in the lower RPMs. I'd imagine that lag until the power kicks in is normal in those.
