View Full Version : ever heard of this part failing.. sway bar mount
was under my car yesterday and noticed somthing wrong, driver side front sway bar (e36 sport package) there was a finger worth of room between the "saddle mount?" and the rubber bushing, #6 in the picture. turns out the bar actually smashed upwards through the mount on the frame, i see no evidence of an accident or anything on this car :shifty they really boned somthing up with the unibodys on these cars.. the driver side above the mount does seem to have more visable corrosion. im gona have to weld some thicker metal over the area.. but we shouldnt really have to do all these re-enforcing on these cars. anyone else seen this ?

I've broken those bolts before. Turner sells an upgraded set-up that is anodized aluminum brackets for 'right there' and they are WAY beefier.
I had one get rusty before and so I cut it out and had a new bracket from the dealer welded on the unibody. It wasn't a big issue since replacement parts are easily available and welding is pretty quick.

This is the part you need to replace number 7 and if your doing the driving side do the passenger too!
Once you get it weld some plates in the support to reinforce it more! ( I did)
thanks alot
i just called my local dealer.. guy wasent too friendly and took me a while to get through to him that i wasent talking about the rubber insert or the bolt on side, even though i said its a weld on part. then he was like ya cant get anything like that, then i said what if i give you a part number (then he found it lol) they want $37 :(

Sweet ......its sucks but the drive side is easy to do and the passenger a little more work and things needed to be removed like the A/C compressure .....but good luck man!

You can order it from getbmwparts.com instead of dealing with your local overpriced stealer if they're like that. We have a few dealers around there that sell below list for BMWCCA members, and some that sell above list because they're dickheads. :)
how come i cant find this part on any site now..
Welded in quite a few of these. Salt sucks. Luckily the part is cheap and available.

Any reason why you could not just weld in a flat box and use a normal high performance swaybar bracket (like Energy Suspension)?
