Hi Guys just wondering how rare an option the fridge is in the UK and how many of you have it? Just got in a 750iL Individual that I will be breaking and it has the fridge, fired it up and it works fine. first one i have ever seen, comes with 3 glasses embossed with BMW so when you drink you see the BMW badge (cool hey) and the instructions which i was surprised too see

the more i look at the highly detailed pics makes me think how can anyone leave a car in that state? the person I purchased from must have had no self respect and he obviously didnt realise what a car he had

Is the trim piece still there for the fridge? Rear carpet?
The car seems wet and damp on the inside (mould on the leather)

Looks like the whole car was under water...Some strange wetness going on in that cabin...Maybe its just the steam ,I think he said he did, to clean off the dirt?

I am not going to keep the interior color. Everything is black. I just got the fridge, PDC, electronics package, armrest (will be recovered or diyed to match), transmission and engine debris guards, fire extinguisher and other misc bits. I have spoken to the seller quite a bit and he seems like a very reasonable guy. He told me I recently missed a set of black wood grab handles he sold to another Canadian (who didn't need them) in a lot of interior parts and I am hoping to track those down... :D

I will post up lots of pics, but it will be a bit before I get the parts and have the time to install them.

hi guys, ill do a fridge un-install if you want?? take some pics of it being un-installed might make it a bit easier for you too fit it John if you see how it came out too. glad your pleased John your a decent guy. hope it will keep your beer cool for many years! took me about 2 hours to get the pdc looms out today, they rin the entire length of the car (obviously) and i had to take off a wing to get to the area behind the front wheel where it goes through.

sadly they are missing, the car considering its spec and value although it only had 1 owner since 18 month old its apparent it didnt get much attention in its later years, trim pieces on the exterior had been refixed with screws, that kind of abuse. sad end to an Individual really, regarding the mould. i think its because it was left parked up for over a year through the seasons, prob got damp sitting through a snowy winter and then when it warmed up thats what started the mould. the car is the highest spec`d model i have had in my possession gladly everything works just needs a clean!

I love these little lavish toys, the fridge is the king.

However, its very much over rated and over priced. I'm sure its possible to make a 12v fridge for less than a third of the cost of one of the OEM ones, and make it look OEM no problem.

im sure you are right, however some drivers just want there car to be perfect and not just like OEM

I'm sure it would be a cool upgrade, however the only thing worst then being pulled over at night for speeding in Louisiana is having them find an open container of alcohol.

Edwin or any other fridge owners, how do they get that compressor to work off 12v? Do they have some kind of step up transformer?

Xephius
07-28-2011, 12:29 AM
The compressor just runs off 12v dc native instead of 110AC or 220ac. It's not terribly hard to wire up.

An uninstall guide would rock. And I think it would also be good to show the other forum members the extra mile you go to when selling these rare parts.

Yes, this is by far the most expensive mode to date. Could you build one cheaper using a 12v peltier cooler fridge, sure. Could you make it look OEM-ish probably not. You might even be able to get a real 12v car fridge from the original manufacture and build up a near OEM install, but it still wouldnt look OEM. Most people wouldn't know the difference, but I would and I care. Lots of people spend more than this on their wheel and tire package, and I will get more enjoyment out of this by far. I have no regrets.

I will take pictures of the unboxing, install and the beauty shots after the install. I can't wait!

Do you need the second battery?
Isnt it alway on?

I should have one before next year this time.

Oh yeah, there IS a such thing as BETTER than OEM. exp: vf superchargers, poly bushings, subs/amps, LEDs, Dinan. I'm sure a few people here can fabracate one BETTER than OEM! the oem one doesnt even have a logo( really I'm just jealous:(:):confused)

Xephius
07-28-2011, 01:55 PM
Duke,

No, it is not always on. It has a little switch in the front that turns it on and off. And it also has a thermostat that is settable from the trunk. You don't need a second battery. If you do have one, the second battery will drain first, then automatically turn off all accessories so the car can start. But that is part of the battery isolator/charger that is in the BMW circuitry not in the fridge.

And I agree, there are things that are better than OEM. But I find them to be far and few between. Mostly aftermarket solutions either look aftermarket because the fit and finish don't match, or they are just lower quality. And while it maybe possible to fabricate one (a fridge) that is better than OEM, I have not seen one. Keep in mind, BMW spend 8 years in the design and prototyping phase for the car and had hundreds of engineers working on it. There are products that match that level and sometimes surpass it. And I have seen craftsman who can hand make upholstery and components that meet and even surpass the OEM fit. But again rarely....

I am just happy to get it. :D

The other stores that I knew of are no longer active but bmwsparesspecial7 (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/bmwsparesspecial7) seems to still be open.

Messan - Thanks for the link and response man. I still haven't received a resolution or my stuff from Barrie.

I don't know if John actually received the Fridge as I haven't heard anything. At this point, I don't have any confidence in Barrie's integrity unless I receive something from him.

If he does take corrective action, I will be sure to post it up and let people know. At this point, I will be pursuing alternative measures to come to a resolution.
